The new Silecroft beach cafe is the result of a competition winning design by Konishi Gaffney Architects who developed a back-to-back wing design which maximises the views of the hills and sea.
The interior of the cafe has an exposed vaulted roof over the cafe area which is formed using exposed rafters and a flitch ridge beam supported on a flitch timber and steel portal frame.
The building is timber framed and stability is provided by racking resistance, in addition to the flitch portal frame.
The timber is specified, where feasible, to be C16 strength ensuring that it will be homegrown and locally supplied.
