Drummond Place, Edinburgh

Location: Edinburgh, Scotland, UK

Architect: Somner Macdonald

Role: Structural Engineer and SER Certification

This project added a single storey extension to an existing property set out over the ground and lower ground floor.

The roof joists and perimeter walls are built in timber with 50mm thick stone cladding panels to the outer leaf which are supported by the timber inner leaf. Inside the roof joists are exposed with all fixings back to the primary structure thoughtfully concealed.

The upper storey of the existing addition has been retained with the walls at the lower level having been demolished and re-supported on steel beams. The circular columns within the extension provide support to both the remaining addition and new structure.
